Chicago, IL - - July 9th, 2016. Lake Michigan and the Chicago skyline served as picturesque backdrops for the Rolfe Foundation Young Professional Board’s annual summer sail, Cruisin’ for a Cure. More than 200 YPB guests celebrated the work of the Rolfe Foundation with an evening of live music, fireworks, and dancing; and by the time Chicago’s Leading Lady returned to shore, Cruisin’ for a Cure had raised more than $52,000 benefiting early detection pancreatic cancer research.
This wonderful accomplishment is a 44% growth from the event’s 2015 outing. In fact, it marks 2016’s Cruisin’ for a Cure as YPB’s most successful fundraising effort ever.
“I’m overjoyed,” effused Robin Goldberg, the night’s obviously delighted chair. “This event is such a collective effort. I’m immensely proud of YPB and of how we’ve matured; it’s incredible that we’ve grown into a group capable of achieving on this level.”
Strolling through the Leading Lady’s varying decks, evidence of that achievement was readily on display. At every turn the Cruisin’ crew basked in the beauty of a perfect summer sunset. Festivity abounded as YPB supporters snapped pictures, laughed heartily, and shared stories about their connections to the Rolfe Foundation. A few brave souls even joined the Cruisin’ band on stage, and shared vocal duties for some impromptu duets!
"For those of us like myself, who have lost someone to this disease, spreading awareness like this, creating this kind of community, and being in the midst of this passion, you feel a real communion. You feel hope.”
“The support is a unique treasure,” mused Ms. Goldberg. “It’s truly gratifying for everyone in YPB to feel this type of interest from our peers. For those of us like myself, who have lost someone to this disease, spreading awareness like this, creating this kind of community, and being in the midst of this passion, you feel a real communion. You feel hope.”
Numerous guests echoed Ms. Goldberg’s sentiments, and many pouted playfully when the time came to return to the docks. And as revelers made their way towards the after party at Public House Chicago, there was already talk of Cruisin’ 2017. . .
“Oh we’re already planning it,” promises Ms. Goldberg, grinning. “We’re committed to enlisting more sponsors, welcoming more supporters, extending our reach, and growing as much as possible. YPB has barely begun to scratch the surface of what we’re capable of.”
