Chicago - - October 17th, 2015. Over 300 dapper guys and dolls joined the Rolfe Foundation for our inaugural speakeasy-spectacular, Speak Out for a Cure. The Foundation and our supporters enjoyed the pleasures of the past as we raised funds to fuel our future endeavors. It was a jubilant celebration of casino games, prohibition-inspired cocktails, and live music; and by the time the band’s final note faded, Speak Out for a Cure had raised more than $230,000 to benefit early detection pancreatic cancer research.
Long before the evening’s end, however, as dice tumbled and the band swelled, it was impossible for the Foundation’s guests not to get swept up in the palpable feeling of promise that overflowed from every song and conversation. “The energy in this room is a force,” enthused Rolfe Board Member and Speak Out Co-Chair Rachel Sheinkop. “It’s thrilling. All these people, whether they know each other or not, have come together for one goal. One purpose. This feeling, the drive – the desire to further Rolfe’s cause – it’s contagious! You can feel the hope.”

Attendees got a chance to hear about their hopes made into action as well, when Rolfe honoree Dr. Ralph Hruban accepted a new grant from the Rolfe Foundation and took a moment to address the festivities. Amidst a brief description of his genetic sequencing work at John Hopkins Medicine, Dr. Hruban observed that, “the limits of scientific discovery are pushed by nights like this and efforts like yours. By supporting Rolfe, you are enabling meaningful research, which will someday affect real change.”
The Rolfe Foundation thanks Dr. Hruban for his sentiments, and all of you, our friends and supporters, for your continued dedication to our mission and work. If you were unable to attend, but are interested in visiting a future Speakeasy, you can click here to learn more about Rolfe events.
